Biography
Brilliantly devised, he grasped the entire concept within an hour. Land started the company in 1935 and ran it until 1982 when it was reported to be a $1.4 billion business.
He had long since dropped out of Harvard, founded a successful corporation and had come up with scores of inventions when he took on the challenge of instant photography, just after World War II.
His mind had been compared to Einstein and Edison, a charismatic man with great physical presence. He was featured on the cover of Life magazine in 1946. Land's other inventions include Polaroid sunglasses, 3-D movies, wartime gun sights and guided missiles. He did basic research on vision and came up with important insights into how the brain perceives color.
Land died on 1 March 1991 at age 81 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Edwin H. Land — Reflector with Profile 3/6
Edwin H. Land is a Reflector in Human Design – the rarest of all types at only about 1% of humanity. Reflectors have no defined centers in their bodygraph and therefore mirror their environment. They are the mirror of society.
The Reflector's strategy is to wait at least one complete lunar cycle (about 28 days) before making important decisions. During this time, the moon transits all 64 gates, providing the Reflector with clarity.
When Edwin H. Land lives in alignment with their design, life unfolds with surprise and wonder. The Reflector's not-self theme is disappointment – a sign of being in an environment that doesn't suit them.
Edwin H. Land is a Reflector with no inner (body-based) authority – because not a single center is defined. Instead, the lunar cycle is the most reliable decision-making compass. By waiting a full lunar cycle of about 28 days while talking with trusted people, the right decision crystallizes.
Edwin H. Land carries the profile 3/6 – Martyr / Role Model. The 3rd line represents the Experimenter: learning through trial and error, embracing life as a practical experiment and growing wise through experience. The 6th line represents the Role Model: a life path in three phases – first experimenting (until ~30), then observing from the "roof" (until ~50), and finally authentically embodying the role model.
The incarnation cross "Right Angle Cross of the Sphinx 2" describes the overarching life purpose and direction of Edwin H. Land in Human Design. It consists of the four gate activations of Sun and Earth (personality and design) and only becomes felt when one lives their strategy and authority.
