Gate 40: Deliverance (Aloneness)

Gate 40 embodies the role of the caring mother or the paternal heart that loves family.

In your design, clear agreements are essential; you must actively enter into them to engage in fruitful exchanges with others. You feel a strong urge to be alone to recharge, for only then are you able to give and perform abundantly from your strategy and authority.

With Gate 40, you show great empathy and care, yet your health and path to individuality fundamentally rely on time for yourself. Respect is the highest command here – without it, nothing works in life ;) Through Gate 40, you find joy in your work. You prefer independent, self-responsible work rather than serving others. With Gate 40, it is important to find a harmonious balance between effort, rest, and play.

Then you burden yourself with an unhealthy amount of responsibility and risk breaking under the pressure. The Gate 40 can lead to you being overburdened by your community or tribe; your inner willpower is unfortunately often misused.

You tend to give an extreme amount to the tribe without taking adequate breaks, which is exactly the weakness that others exploit. Your energy and your caring attitude are taken by others because you work too hard instead of working smart. In partnerships, there is a risk that instead of being the beloved partner, you take on the maternal-paternal role. You are expected to fulfill the childish needs of an immature partner. Additionally, you struggle to make clear agreements; instead, you end up being taken advantage of because you give more than ever flows back to you.
