Chantal Thomass

French fashion designer, mostly lingerie.

Thomass learned the métier from Dorothée Bis and in 1967 started her own: ‘Ter et Bantine’. The style is bohemian/hippy. In 1975 Thomass began with adding lingerie to her collections. In the period of sexual liberation she goes back to girdles and corsets using silk and lycra to accentuate the female body. There is however a difference with the older 'girdle/corset' generation because Thomass invents the style ‘dessous/dessus', lingerie made to be seen and not to be hidden. She creates for the seductive, sensual, erotic and a bit dominant women.

Chantal Tomass faced some trials and scandals. She had once the feminists on her case when she used real mannequins dressed in her lingerie standing in the window of gallery La Fayette-Haussmann in Paris.

She also designed for Jaguar a pink Jaguar, furniture for AG*R, bad towels for Vedette, a dessert for café de la Paix in Paris and more.She also invests of her time in charity, designed dolls for Unicef and other charity organisations.
