Biography
Rose attended Duke University and graduated with a degree in history. He then attended their law school and earned his JD. He received honorary doctorates of law from the University of North Carolina and C. W. Post College. Rose is divorced.
After experiencing shortness of breath, the 64-year-old journalist underwent heart surgery on 29 March 2006 in Paris, France to replace his mitral valve.
In mid-March 2008, when he showed up on his TV interview show with a bruised cheek and a bandaid over his blackened eye, he said he had taken a fall. One report said he had tripped on a pothole while walking in Manhattan and fell face-down. His producer said that the TV host made a split decision to save the laptop computer that he was carrying instead of his face.
In November 2017, Rose was fired from PBS after The Washington Post published multiple in-house allegations of sexual harassment from the late 1990s to 2011. His employment at CBS was also terminated, and his eponymous show Charlie Rose, which was aired on PBS and Bloomberg, was cancelled.
Since 2022, Rose has hosted the online interviews Charlie Rose Conversations.
