Biography
Of his work, Mead was once moved to comment: "I've called science fiction 'reality ahead of schedule.'" His works, many of which are critically acclaimed and highly regarded, led to Mead being called "the artist who illustrates the future".
Mead was in a personal relationship with partner Roger Servick, who also became a business manager in 1991. They established a publishing extension, OBLAGON, Inc., in Hollywood and relocated in 1998 to Pasadena, California, where Mead continued to work.
In 2018, Mead published his autobiography, A Future Remembered. On 30 December 2019, Syd Mead died in his Pasadena home at the age of 86, after three years of lymphoma.
