Biography
French writer and critic who participated in the founding of the journal Tel Quel in 1960, quickly becoming one of the main figures of the French literary and intellectual landscape of the second half of the 20th century.
He was a prolific author and often appeared in the media as a controversial provocateur (an "actor" in his own words) to challenge the traditional image of writers and annoy his detractors.
He was a close friend of Louis Althusser, Jacques Lacan and Roland Barthes.
Sollers married philosopher Julia Kristeva in 1967. He died on 5 May 2023 at age 86 in Paris.
