Biography

William Blake (28 November 1757 – 12 August 1827) was an English poet, painter and printmaker. Largely unrecognised during his life, Blake has become a seminal figure in the history of the poetry and visual art of the Romantic Age. What he called his "prophetic works" were said by the 20th-century critic Northrop Frye to form "what is in proportion to its merits the least read body of poetry in the English language". While he lived in London his entire life, except for three years spent in Felpham, he produced a diverse and symbolically rich collection of works, which embraced the imagination as "the body of God", or "human existence itself".
Although Blake was considered mad by contemporaries for his idiosyncratic views, he came to be highly regarded by later critics and readers for his expressiveness and creativity, and for the philosophical and mystical undercurrents within his work. His paintings and poetry have been characterised as part of the Romantic movement and as "Pre-Romantic". He was hostile to the Church of England (indeed, to almost all forms of organised religion), and was influenced by the ideals and ambitions of the French and American Revolutions. Although later he rejected many of these political beliefs, he maintained an amicable relationship with the political activist Thomas Paine; he was also influenced by thinkers such as Emanuel Swedenborg. Despite these known influences, the singularity of Blake's work makes him difficult to classify.

The Human Design of William Blake: Generator 2/4

William Blake is a Generator in Human Design – an energy type with a defined Sacral Center. Generators make up about 36% of humanity and possess an enormous, sustainable life force energy.

The Generator's strategy is to respond to impulses from life rather than initiating. When the Sacral Center responds with a clear "yes" (a gut feeling, an inner spark), that's the right path.

When William Blake lives in alignment with their design, they experience deep satisfaction and fulfillment. The Generator's not-self theme is frustration – a sign that the sacral energy isn't following the right things.

William Blake has Emotional Authority – the most common authority. Decisions should never be made in an emotional high or low, but only when emotional clarity settles in. "Sleep on it" is meant literally here. The emotional wave needs time to run its course.

William Blake carries the profile 2/4 – Hermit / Opportunist. The 2nd line represents the Natural: a natural talent that is often unconscious and only activated when called out by others. The 4th line represents the Networker: influence and impact unfold through personal relationships and a strong social network.

The incarnation cross "Right Angle Cross of Planning 4" describes the overarching life purpose and direction of William Blake in Human Design. It consists of the four gate activations of Sun and Earth (personality and design) and only becomes felt when one lives their strategy and authority.
