His design suggested that he could quickly pull things into his life, often by skipping steps or pursuing multiple projects simultaneously. This speed was, however, a double-edged sword. Without proper alignment, skipping phases led to having to return later to fill gaps – a source of deep frustration. Also, reacting to many impulses at once risked turning his creativity into exhaustion if not all inner instances were in sync.

The solution lay in the strategy of responding rather than initiating. Vital Borkelmans had to wait for life to speak to him and then check whether his Sacral Center gave a clear “yes.” Only this validation secured his satisfaction. Once this rhythm was established, his multi-layered approach transformed into a productive “play mode.” Instead of being forced to tackle one thing at a time, he could work in parallel and enjoy variety without losing inner consent. His energy thus became not an uncontrollable sprint but a powerful, validated dance with the demands of daily life.

Sacral Authority

His design required him to pay attention to these bodily signals – concretely audible as grunts, hums, or an affirming “mm-hm.” As long as his Emotional Center was open, this sacral authority could clearly operate. When his Sacral Motor engaged, he felt vital and alive; seemingly inexhaustible energy was at his disposal. This allowed him to perform tasks with great enthusiasm, fully immersed in what he did without an external purpose or benefit needing to be the forefront. His design thus described a path through life marked by joy and satisfaction as long as he followed this inner, physical guidance.

The 5/1 Profile — Heretic / Investigator

Vital Borkelmans revealed himself through a tension field between the deep, private research drive of Line 1 and the magnetic attraction as a problem solver for others, as defined by Profile 5/1. His internal stance was often marked by self-doubt; he tended to deny his talents or reject recognition, similar to a critical baseline that does not consider itself particularly capable. This dynamic of Line 5 requires transformation: from rejection to conscious acceptance of one’s gifts for the collective. Without this development, Vital Borkelmans faced the risk of exhaustion. As others often sought solutions due to his radiant presence, excessive helpfulness without clear boundaries could lead to overextension – akin to an expert drained after extensive consultation and overwhelmed by further inquiries. The key was learning to say “no” to maintain balance between personal knowledge (Line 1) and benefit for others (Line 5). Additionally, calm played a role in dealing with doubts; these had to be logically refuted rather than seen as obstacles. Vital Borkelmans’ design challenged him to acknowledge his abilities through encouragement – both from outside and within – and use them purposefully, avoiding the role of the “spoilsport” who unconsciously blocks their potential.

Split Definition — Defined & Open Centers

Vital Borkelmann's Human Design shows a tendency towards high inner sovereignty and direct effectiveness. His defined centers – Sacral, Heart, G Center, and Throat – created a constant energy base: generative life force (Sacral), personal willpower (Heart), reliable identity (G) as well as the ability to directly translate these into communication and action (Throat). This allowed him to act from a stable inner source and clearly express his truth.

In contrast, Head, Ajna, Solar Plexus, Spleen, and Root were open. This openness meant that mental clarity, emotional stability or spontaneous intuition was not available as constant internal resources but absorbed situationally from the environment. Vital Borkelmann's tended to absorb external mental pressure (Head/Ajna) or foreign emotions (Solar Plexus) without taking them personally. The challenge lay in using the immense power of his defined centers without being distracted or conditioned by the external pressures of open centers – such as stress (Root), fear of illness (Spleen) or emotional confusion.

Channels for endurance, determination and purposeful execution.

Vital Borkelmann's design showed a fundamental tension between the drive for material sovereignty and the need to surrender to intuitive processes. His design tended towards gaining control over his own resources while simultaneously creating space for long-term, uncontrollable discoveries.

This dynamic was shaped by two central channels. The Money Line 21-45 connected the Heart Center with the Throat Center and demanded active will-setting on a material level. Through Gate 21 (the Hunter) and Gate 45 (the Gatherer), an imperative need for independence emerged: “I have or I don’t”. This channel pushed Vital Borkelmann to take responsibility and establish hierarchies, where the risk lay in control compulsion. He had to learn to use his energy so that he was his own boss to avoid stress on the Heart Center and ensure material security.

Simultaneously, the Discovery Channel 29-46 connected the Sacral Center with the G Center. Here Gate 29 (the Saying Yes) linked up with Gate 46 (the Self’s Resolve). This mechanism required letting go of expectations and blind trust in the process. In contrast to the controlling will of the Money Line, this configuration demanded persistence despite a lack of immediate meaning. Vital Borkelmann had to learn to lose himself in experiences without wanting to control them so that their significance would only reveal itself at the end.

The challenge was to achieve material independence through will (21-45) and then hold back this energy for intuitive discovery (29-46). Success showed where he relinquished the Heart’s control compulsion in favor of surrendering to the sacral flow, thus balancing both poles.

On one side, a cyclical process of meaning-making was evident: The Identity and Sacral Centers were directly connected (Channel 46-29). This generated wave-like emotional cycles aimed at reflecting past experiences to derive collective insights.

Independently, on the other side, a mechanism of resource cooperation emerged: The Throat and Heart Centers formed a direct connection (Channel 45-21). Here it was about material security, value exchange, and transactional justice in social contexts. Since this group did not connect to the Sacral Center, this area relied on regular rest pauses to regenerate energy for further cooperative actions.

Both systems were not directly linked at Vital Borkelmann's. Instead, they existed as independent forces: the inner emotional need to process and share past experiences stood alongside the outer necessity to act through cooperation and resource management within the current social framework. This structure shaped a tension between cyclical, emotional reflection and pragmatic action based on exchange without direct life force support from the Sacral Center for the cooperative domain.

This process of differentiation was not just a comparison for him, but a central means of self-discovery: Only in contrast to the Other did it become clear who he truly is. This attitude stems from the influence of the left Identifying Cross 1. This design element suggests that identity does not arise in isolation, but through conscious distinction from foreign patterns and expectations. Vital Borkelmans used this mechanism to sharpen his own definition rather than finding himself in predefined roles. The constant questioning “Who am I in contrast to that?” served as a compass for his inner self-understanding. It was not about rejecting the Other, but about the necessity of clearly outlining his own substance. Through this continuous differentiation, Vital Borkelmans could take an authentic position based on his individual perception, not adaptation. The energy of this cross thus promoted an active process of recognizing and holding onto his unique identity, driven by a constant reference point to the environment.

Vital Borkelmans showed himself in his life phases through clear turning points that marked structure and breakout. His design laid out a tendency towards cyclical changes, driven by planetary influences that shaped his development.

In 2003, at age 40, he experienced the rise of Cercle Brügge into the first league. This corresponded to the Uranus opposition, a phase of breakout and expansion. Here, his potential for new paths and successes was revealed as old structures were broken open to make room for innovation.

Later, in 2021 at age 58, he stepped down from his coaching position with the Jordanian national team. This coincided with his second Saturn return, a time of structural review and possible crisis. In this phase, previous life is reviewed for its viability; what no longer serves is let go.

These events illustrate the mechanics of his design: Uranus brought expansion and success through breaking away from the known, while Saturn forced reflection and consolidation. Vital Borkelmans thus moved in a rhythm of breakout and review, with each cycle further shaping his identity.
