Biography
Astor appeared at No. 12 on the first list of America's richest people, compiled by Forbes magazine. His net worth at the time was estimated at $75 million. Among his holdings was Newsweek magazine, and he was its chairman.
Astor married three times, divorced twice and was survived by his third wife Brooke Astor. He had no children. In 1914 he had been stricken with the mumps, a disease that made him sterile.
Vincent Astor died on 3 February 1959 of a heart attack at age 67 in his apartment at 120 East End Avenue in Manhattan. He left all of his money to the Vincent Astor foundation, whereby Brooke Astor continued his philanthropic work.
