Lee Towers

Charismatic Dutch singer, who set the Ahoy Rotterdam arena in flame as only the greatest world artists can do.

He was introduced to the general public in 1975 by Willem Duys in "Muziek Mozaïek" as "The Singing Crane Mechanic". He was labelled as the singing dockworker of Rotterdam, but actually he was a millwright and fitter.

His music became part of the hit music charts from the early 1970s up until today. He got many nicknames and titles, including "The Man with the Golden Mic", "The Pin" or "The Glasses" "Mr Ahoy" the "God Father of Dutch Popular Music". He got the titles "Ambassador of Rotterdam Port" and "Ambassador for Feyenoord Football Club 2005" and received many other awards for his charity work and music achievements.

He was the first Dutch singer who was able to fill and set the Ahoy Rotterdam arena in flame. He did this twice. In 2000, during his 50th Gala Of The Year concert. On 1 November 2011 Lee was back for "One Night Only", a special concert for 35 years in the business, also his 51st Vegas Style concert in the venue, in front of 12000 fans.

On 27 January 2013 Hans Heijnen's documentary "Lee Towers: The Voice Of Rotterdam" was released at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.

Personal

Leen Huijzer keeps his private life very secret. He lost his mother and greatest fan end 2013, he wrote on his website: "Leen Huijzer: the man behind Lee Towers

With all this success we might almost forget the man behind Lee Towers (whose name is actually Leen Huijzer) and that is precisely his great strength and motivation. Because, when asked once about the recipe for his great success, Leen answered: 'Maybe my secret is that I'm close to ordinary people. Which means that I can feel better than anybody just what people need at a particular moment.' Despite all the spectacle and the shows, therefore, Leen has remained an ordinary human being.
