Biography
One of the great movie villains, Lee Van Cleef started out as an accountant. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard minesweepers and subchasers during World War II. After the war he worked as an office administrator, becoming involved in amateur theatrics in his spare time.
An audition for a professional role led to a touring company job in "Mr. Roberts". His performance was seen by Stanley Kramer, who cast him as henchman Jack Colby in High Noon (1952), a role that brought him great recognition despite the fact that he had no dialogue.
For the next decade he played a string of memorably villainous characters, primarily in westerns but also in crime dramas such as The Big Combo (1955). His hawk nose and steely, slit eyes seemed destined to keep him always in the realm of heavies, but in the mid-'60s Sergio Leone cast him as the tough but decent Col. Mortimer opposite Clint Eastwood in For a Few Dollars More (1965).
A new career as a western hero (or at least anti-hero) opened up, and Van Cleef became an international star, though in films of decreasing quality. In the 1980s he moved easily into action and martial-arts movies, and starred in The Master (1984), a TV series featuring almost non-stop martial arts action.
He was an alcoholic and was in a clinic for three years.
Van Cleef died of a heart attack on 16 December 1989, aged 64.
Human Design Analysis: Lee Van Cleef as Reflector 4/6
Lee Van Cleef is a Reflector in Human Design – the rarest of all types at only about 1% of humanity. Reflectors have no defined centers in their bodygraph and therefore mirror their environment. They are the mirror of society.
The Reflector's strategy is to wait at least one complete lunar cycle (about 28 days) before making important decisions. During this time, the moon transits all 64 gates, providing the Reflector with clarity.
When Lee Van Cleef lives in alignment with their design, life unfolds with surprise and wonder. The Reflector's not-self theme is disappointment – a sign of being in an environment that doesn't suit them.
Lee Van Cleef is a Reflector with no inner (body-based) authority – because not a single center is defined. Instead, the lunar cycle is the most reliable decision-making compass. By waiting a full lunar cycle of about 28 days while talking with trusted people, the right decision crystallizes.
Lee Van Cleef carries the profile 4/6 – Opportunist / Role Model. The 4th line represents the Networker: influence and impact unfold through personal relationships and a strong social network. The 6th line represents the Role Model: a life path in three phases – first experimenting (until ~30), then observing from the "roof" (until ~50), and finally authentically embodying the role model.
The incarnation cross "Right Angle Cross of Penetration 4" describes the overarching life purpose and direction of Lee Van Cleef in Human Design. It consists of the four gate activations of Sun and Earth (personality and design) and only becomes felt when one lives their strategy and authority.
