Biography
A hippie dropout product of the drug culture, she met and loved Charles Manson, joining his camp on the old Spahn ranch in Death Valley. She had a child, Zee Zo Zeze Zedfrack, father unknown, in 1968. On 8-9 August 1969, she joined in the ritualistic killing of five people, holding eight-month pregnant Sharon Tate while Tex Watson stabbed her to death. While in prison, she later had a "religious conversion" (1974), which she described in her 1977 memoir. She later began a prison ministry. In 1981 she was married for a few months to a Texan named Donald Lee Laisure who claimed he was a millionaire. He also claimed that she was his 29th wife, later saying that she was his 36th. She married again in 1987, this time to James Whitehouse, who subsequently became a lawyer.
While in prison her health deteriorated. In 2008 she was diagnosed with brain cancer and underwent a leg amputation as well. Atkins died at age 61 on 24 September 2009 at a women's prison in Chowchilla, California.
Susan Atkins as a Projector 4/6 in Human Design
Susan Atkins is a Projector in Human Design – a non-energy type designed to guide and direct others. Projectors make up about 20% of humanity and have a special gift for recognizing and directing the energies and talents of others.
The Projector's strategy is to wait for the right, respectful invitation before contributing their guidance. Without an invitation, the Projector's wisdom is often unrecognized or even rejected.
When Susan Atkins lives in alignment with their design, they experience success and recognition. The Projector's not-self theme is bitterness – a sign that their wisdom and guidance isn't being valued.
Susan Atkins has Self-Projected Authority – a rare authority found only in Projectors. Decision-making happens through identity: "Do I feel like myself with this decision?" Self-talk or speaking thoughts aloud to trusted people can help find clarity.
Susan Atkins carries the profile 4/6 – Opportunist / Role Model. The 4th line represents the Networker: influence and impact unfold through personal relationships and a strong social network. The 6th line represents the Role Model: a life path in three phases – first experimenting (until ~30), then observing from the "roof" (until ~50), and finally authentically embodying the role model.
The incarnation cross "Right Angle Cross of the Sphinx 2" describes the overarching life purpose and direction of Susan Atkins in Human Design. It consists of the four gate activations of Sun and Earth (personality and design) and only becomes felt when one lives their strategy and authority.
