Biography

American actress and producer, who made her mark as a comedian in the No.1 hit series, Seinfeld (1990-1998). The quirky quartet of self-involved New Yorkers were a great success in their "show about nothing." Previously she was known for her work in Saturday Night Live (1982–1985), and after Seinfeld she starred in The New Adventures of Old Christine (2006–2010), and Veep (2012–2019).

She is one of the most awarded actors in television history, winning more Emmy Awards and more Screen Actors Guild Awards than any other performer. Louis-Dreyfus has received eleven Emmy Awards, eight for acting and three for producing, with a total of 24 nominations throughout her career.

Her film roles have included Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989), Deconstructing Harry (1997), and Enough Said (2013). She voiced roles in the animated films A Bug's Life (1998) and Planes (2013).

Louis-Dreyfus was an only child of parents who divorced when she was one and she grew up in New York and Washington DC, shuttling back and forth between parents and four half-sisters. Her father, Gérard C. Louis-Dreyfus (1932-2016), also known to family as William, was a French-born American businessman whose net worth was estimated at $3.4 billion by Forbes in 2006. Her great-great-grandfather was Léopold Louis-Dreyfus (1833-1915), a French investor and businessman, founder of the Louis Dreyfus Group, and patriarch of the Louis-Dreyfus family.

She was president at her all-girl's school and studied drama at Northwestern in Chicago. While at Northwestern, Louis-Dreyfus met future husband and Saturday Night Live comedian Brad Hall. She and Hall married in 1987. They have two sons together, Henry, born in 1992, and Charles, born in 1997.

On 28 September 2017, Louis-Dreyfus announced on Twitter that she was diagnosed with breast cancer one day after receiving a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Veep.
